REPETATIVE STRAIN INJURIES (RSI):

Most commonly affecting the upper limb of the body RSI are activity related, either associated with work, exercise or hobbies. Any movements that are performed in a repetitive motion with insufficient rest during the activity can cause these types of injuries, for example mouse work, typing, painting, plastering, using a screwdriver, playing tennis/golf, or playing musical instruments.

RSI is generally aggravated by activity and results in pain and weakness which causes the person to have to stop and rest. Initially the pain will ensue but will improve if the person abstains from the activity. Pain at night is not uncommon in the affected area due to the build up of inflammation in the tissues.

Maidstone Osteopathy Limited can help with easing the pain of Repetative Strain Injuries by treating the affected area, however activity modification will be required, and occasionally functional aids maybe prescribed to ease the pressure on the tissues while they repair. Stretching and strengthening exercises will also help aid recovery and help to prevent the condition returning.
